HSc with no serial number.
« on: December 31, 2017, 11:58:03 PM »

Hello to all and happy new year,
I'm trying to date and do some research on an HSc that I got used as a gift in the mid 1970s. My problem is that I can't locate a full serial number in the 700000 range or above, that should be on the frame. There is a partial # 196 both on the underside of the firing chamber stamped and the same #196 on the underside of the slide in electro pencil. The markings on the slide are strange too with no Mauser banner, no caliber indication and a # 51400 stamped under the MAUSER-WERKE A.G.OBERNDORF / NECKER.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I am sorry I can't really help you other than to say yes it is really odd. If I was guessing I would say it was assembeld out of parts at the factory after the war but possibily out of expermental parts? Or at least the slide.
Hopefully other more knowledgeable people will chime in with some info.

I was thinking in the same direction. Maybe assembled by someone for personal use or a black market job, rejected or spare parts. I just don't know why the slide is stamped that way and what 51400 could mean.
Thanks for the reply.

A lot of material has been removed from the slide and possibly from the grip.

It is probably a bad restoration attempt with the remnants of the serial reapplied at the wrong location.

Also looks like it has been reblued including the Barrel and inside the Slide.

There is some major pitting on it.  Looks like it has had an interesting life.
