Variation 3 HSC KM Value
« on: December 27, 2019, 05:07:31 PM »
I know value and condition % can be a very subjective topic but I am curious what opinions would be on a double marked km HSC? It's maybe 80% bluing but from the photos it doesn't look like any pitting. Not sure if I should pursue it or not.

An 80% finish isn't much, Philip, unless it's a shooter.  I would go about $600 on it.  A 95% to 98% is only double that and would be much more presentable in your collection.  A reminder ... don't forget matching serial numbers.  That's the most important qualification for resale.  Hope that helps.

Thank you Alan, I haven't been looking at hscs for a little bit and I know it was a uncommon variation so I wanted a extra opinion on values. It comes with some extras so imay still buy it
Seller States its matching. The serial number is 802916 for the database

I ended up winning the auction right at $600. It came with 3 wartime magazines and 3 postwar magazines. When it arrives it will be interesting to see it in hand compared to the poor photographs and hopefully it's in better shape than I guestimated.

Well ... with all those Magazines you got a steal of a deal.  Glad my estimate was that close, too.  Be interested in seeing some pictures when it arrives.

That sounds like a very fine price to me.   Congratulations.

It was shipped today. Delayed due to the holidays. When it gets in I will try to get some photos

Arrived last night. Overall the main issue is there is pitting underneath the grips on the frame that isn't really noticeble with the grips on it. So if I can size down some photos I will post it. Probably sell all the extras that came with it and either have it as a inexpensive low collector grade var. 3 or might sell it. Not sure yet

Also I've never seen a 5 pointed star stamped into the bottom of the grip strap before but there is one by the mag release

I have a star stamped proof mark.   It is a Spanish proof mark.   Not sure why that star would be on your example.

So I posted photos on the Jan still luger forum. They have a larger limit on file size. I also asked about the star marking to see if anyone else has seen one marked like that. It is most likely nothing but it piques my interest
