Seeking Info . . .
« on: December 29, 2014, 04:16:48 AM »
Greetings . . .

I'm hoping (& grateful) for any assistance w/ identifying the rifle depicted in the attached photo.

I'm not a collecter of firearms; but rather I was out trolling fleamarkets w/ my wife (& muling her purchases) when I purchased this rifle . . . I thought it was pretty cool (w/ it's alleged history) . . . anyway, the seller said it had 'always been in his family, since WW1'.

Anyway, any information at all regarding this rifle would be greatly appreciated . . . I think it's a Mauser (or rather the seller thought it was a Mauser; so, I thought I'd start here on your forum . . .).

p.s., I'm not interested in selling it; as I said, I think it's pretty cool . . . I just like digging into the history of some of the things we pick up at flea markets, antik sales & estate/castle sales.

My thanks to anyone who's willing/able to help me w/ this.

Regards,

Shek5150

If there are any markings on the rifle you do not show them.  All I can tell from your photo is that it is Not a Gew 98, Kar 98a or b or a K98k.                                                                                                                                                                               The slanted bolt handle looks familiar - makes me think its french, but I'm blank.                                                                   Sarge

Sarge and Saxon,

Thank you for your reply . . .

Regarding 'markings' on the rifle . . . are their typical locations that I should look for these markings?  I truly meant it when I said I'm not a collector . . . matter of fact the only firearm I own is a Mossberg 590 Tactical Shotgun (for home protection) . . . otherwise, I know nothing of antik firearms.  So, could you at least tell me where I might look for these identifying markings?  It's pretty worn & markings are difficult to locate; but if you point me in that right direction I'll take pics & post them.

THanks again you guys; I appreciate the help.

Shek,
I really don't know where to tell you to look.I'm not a rifle collector but seems like markings or serial numbers should be around the bolt housing.

That is an H&K leather shoulder strap that hangs on it.   That is the only thing I can tell about it.  Interesting the way the bolt handle faces forward.
