markings on a 1914 barrel
« on: January 26, 2015, 08:03:57 PM »
I posses a 1914 with a barrel that doesn't have any of the normal proofs or markings. No nitro proofs of any kind and not numbered in the usual spots. However on the bottom side is what appears to be mark that looks like a crest followed by the letter c and the #425. The #425  does not match any of the serial #.
The barrel also looks cruder than other replacement barrels I have seen.
Maybe I am making much to do over nothing but I thought I might ask what other people have observed.

pardt,
I have not seen a barrel marked like this before. My first guess would be that is a non Mauser replacement barrel. An overall picture and the serial number of the example that it came with would be helpful.

I sure it is a replacement of some kind as the gun is serial # 53,272 and is imperial marked on the slide. Interesting enough the 2s in the serial are very hard to decipher as the die must have been broken or worn. All the # match though.

In my rambling last post what I meant to get across is. While I know it has to be a replacement of some kind, they are stamps I have not seen elswhere and I knew that there were people here much more knowledgeable than I who might have seen them before.

It is definitely a replacement as the front sight is rounded. The original barrel would of had a ramped front sight. A Mauser replacement barrel would of had a proof mark even if it was not numbered. That and the roughness that you described leads me to I suspect it was made elsewhere.
