You have a custom made hunting rifle built on a 98 Mauser action.
Probably(?) made between the 2 world wars using a WW 1 rifle for a starting point.
Unless there is a makers name on it you'll probably never know much more than that.

Yes, it tells us that your pistol is an imported Russian capture from WW 2.

KAR 98K Rifle / Re: 8mm Mauser
« on: June 16, 2015, 05:23:50 PM »
It began life as a Spanish copy of the German K98k in 7.92 (8mm).  It is called the M43 and was adopted by the Spanish in 1943.
Somewhere along the line it was sporterized.

General Mauser Rifle Questions / Re: German mauser
« on: June 02, 2015, 09:26:39 PM »
Your rifle was made in Steyr Austria in 1942.  1417 is the ser nr.  Does it have a letter after or below that nr?  If so that letter is a part of the ser nr and should always be listed with the nr for insurance or what ever.
Do you have the war trophy paper?  It will be either a half or full page form that lists the rifle/ser nr.  It will also have your dads name and unit on it.

The only thing I can say for sure is that it is a late 50s rebuild with a new bbl chambered in 7.62 Nato cal.                                  It was probably originally a Mod 91 or 93 Mauser as evidenced by the bolt, as these are what most of those rebuilds were.    Sarge

Boy, talk about lucky finds!  Where are you - your sign in doesn't say.
Want to sell either one?  I like the Borsigwalde Mauser stuff the best of all the different factories.  I've got all but one of the K98ks from there.                                                                                                                                                                       Sarge

Didn't get a photo.                                                                                                                                                                            I'd guess that what you have is a scrubbed German or Polish Mauser sent to the Franco forces in the mid/late 30s.                     Sarge

Well, to give an accurate answer to your question we need to see all the receiver markings - top & left side.                               It doesn't appear to be an Isreali rework, more likely a S. American country.  Several of them reworked their Mausers to 7.62 Nato.                                                                                                                                                                                                 I'd say that, yes it is safe to shoot Nato/308 ammo thru - both military & commercial, but I would not shoot any hot hand loads to be on the safe side.                                                                                                                                                                  Sarge

Model 80SA / 90DA Pistol / Re: Model 80.SA and 90.DA side by side

I think it is a duralloy frame.  It is silver/aluminum colored.                                                                                                             I have one of both frames.                                                                                                                                                          Sarge

It is what it is - a good hunting rifle.  It will never be anything else.

General Discussion / Re: Mauser custom rifle
« on: December 30, 2014, 06:02:42 PM »
Since it is apparently a custom built rifle there will be no "retail" value on it.  Its value will be just what someone is willing to pay.                                                                                                                                                                                             Sarge

If there are any markings on the rifle you do not show them.  All I can tell from your photo is that it is Not a Gew 98, Kar 98a or b or a K98k.                                                                                                                                                                               The slanted bolt handle looks familiar - makes me think its french, but I'm blank.                                                                   Sarge

General Mauser Rifle Questions / Re: Trying to be sure this is a Mauser 43
« on: December 26, 2014, 05:49:58 PM »
Yes it is a Mod 43.  The stock is very similar to a K98k stock.                                                                                                  Good luck finding a stock!                                                                                                                                                             Sarge
