The stock appears to be a correct stock for the pistol and should not have a serial number stamped into the attaching iron. Regards,

Henry, The stock on the left in the first picture appears to be a re-production. They are hard to find but they are out there. I acquired one with harness and a 10 round magazine not too long ago. Regards,

You might try posting your question on Jan Still's Luger forum. There are many knowledgeable collectors there who may be able to answer your question. Regards,

C96 / C12 Broomhandle / Re: Bent Red 9 firing pin
« on: January 27, 2022, 01:40:19 PM »
It sounds like you've had it a part so replacing should be easy. Finding a replacement firing pin is where the difficulty may be. I do see them for sale on GunBroker from time to time. Another possible source is vintage gun parts dealers. If it moves freely through the bolt face I would not be greatly concerned. Regards,

No, that is the proof mark. The Imperial acceptance mark is a Gothic letter on the other, right side of the chamber.

This is an example of a Red-9 that was never delivered. Note the lack of an acceptance on right side of the chamber.
Also it is marked "Made in Germany" by the proof mark. The stock matches but the leather harness is war issue.

Matt, another good dealer with some C-96s is https://www.handgunsoftheworld.com/page/page/4114971.htm

At the end of WWI Mauser had only delivered around 100,000 of the Red-9s ordered. The ones not delivered were sent/sold to Finland. Possibly some kind of war reparations. Others were sold and exported. Many of the ones' Simpsons have sold recently are ones sent to Finland as was stated in their listing. These postwar Red-9s are usually in better condition than a delivered war used Red_9. These examples. will not have an acceptance marking on the right side of the chamber. None will have the Prussian eagle. There are no prewar Red-9s. Regards,

Red-9s are an area buyers need to be certain of before committing to purchase. One thing that one should be aware of is the difference between a war used Red-9 and a post war Finnish contract. If the serial number is above 100,000 and the Imperial acceptance marking is missing, it is a post war Red-9. Regards,

I am replying because I doubt you will get many replies to your question. Your are asking collectors to help you find the same things they hunt for and collect. It sounds like you have done some research, though you may have some uncertainty in making a decision involving a serious amount of money. In todays market you need to know what you are looking for will most likely cost in the $3000-5000+ range. From your description you are lookin for a Imperial accepted Wartime commercial or a Red-9 with a matching stock. Both of these are high demand variations and a matching stock adds a high premium. Of the 2 the Red-9 is in higher demand. For either you will need to know what to look for to know what is correct. The auction sites are a good place to hunt and there are a few dealers who handle these collectable examples. Caveat emptor not all dealers are reputable and some are just ignorant. I wish you luck in your search. I would suggest that no one is going to hand you a prize out of the goodness of their heart or help you with your hunt without compensation. Regards,

Model HSC Pistol / Re: Meaning of "A" marking near the magazine release?
« on: January 20, 2022, 08:04:06 AM »
It is my understanding that the letter, on the bottom of the frame near the magazine release, indicates the letter designation of the milling machine that the frame was created on. Regards,

Yes, Maybe, Yes, Yes. I would need detailed pictures of the stock to say more about it. Most stocks have some side to side movement. Sometimes a thin shim is a temporary fix. Prices lately have been crazy. I would access the current market value of your example in the $2200-2700 range. Regards,

DeCeCo, In my opinion the finish on the pictured example is original and correct. It appears to be a decent example. Regards

WTP / Re: Mauser WTP II frame markings
« on: December 10, 2021, 10:03:13 AM »
Rob, These are most likely machinist or inspector markings that were done at the factory. Similar markings on HSCs were determined to indicate the machine or station that the frame was produced at. Regards,

General Mauser Pistol Questions / Re: Mauser 7.62 Pistol info
« on: December 10, 2021, 09:59:25 AM »
You have a .32 caliber/7.65 mm Mauser pocket model, A.K.A. 1914 WWI era variation. It was most likely used in WWI by the German Imperial army. The SS markings are fake. Most likely done to boost value. They in fact detract from collectable value. It could be worth around $400. Regards,

Scanman, I can't help with the Asian characters. There were many cut-a-way C96s made from Chinese imports in the 1970s. I believe that is what you have. Regards,
