What is the purpose of the disconnector on my 1910 and is it safe to fire without it? Thank you..

The Disconnector on a Semi-Automatic Pistol does just what it says and disconnects the firing mechanism from the Trigger after a single shot.  Without it, you would uncontrollably empty the Magazine in full auto with a single Trigger pull.  A very dangerous condition since these pistols were not designed to fire this way.
