Model HSC Pistol / Re: post war hsc American Eagle
« on: July 14, 2015, 01:12:07 PM »
Very nice,

I can tell you how they applied the 'eagle'. It is identical to the eagle marking on the Mauser Parabellum pistols that were sold by Interarms. The eagle was applied by using a template, which was a negative image, printed on bitumen which stuck to a transfer paper. The transfer was applied to the pistol, the bitumen remained. Then, carefully, etching fluid was dabbed across the bitumen template. After enough depth was reached the slide was cleaned/neutralized and the bitumen remains removed, showing the eagle.

I have some of these original templates.

I recently acquired a second example of such a Mauser magazine blank.

General Discussion / Re: Some nice additional Mauser finds

Hi, I found the Mauser chair in Oberndorf. These were used in the company and several of them were sold off and ended up in Oberndorf homes. A few are now in the Oberndorf town hall and in the Oberndorf Museum as well.

The envelope came from an antiques dealer in Germany as well. The stuff is out there, finding it is a challenge :)

Sometimes you come across items that are too nice to pass up, especially if they are related to our favorite brand.

Here are some recent acquisitions:

1. A 1940s pay envelope from the Mauser subsidiary in Berlin-Borsigwalde (in the DWM complex).
2. A Mauser company chair.

C96 / C12 Broomhandle / Re: Cartridges
« on: March 05, 2015, 01:11:33 PM »
They were indeed made in Portugal.

Produce quite a muzzle blast, but should function OK. After all, they were specifically loaded for the C96. I have several complete packages, even with a C96 image on the box.

Model 1934 Pistol / 1934 dug up at Deelen airbase Holland
« on: October 27, 2014, 05:22:53 PM »
During a visit to the Deelen museum, a military airfield in the Netherlands, I noticed this 1934 on display. It was found at a German crash site in Epe, not far from the Airbase. The pilot had already been recovered and buried at a military cemetery.

Place the assembly in a large, transparant, plastic bag and dismantle it in there. Anything flying out should be caught by the bag :)

Model 80SA / 90DA Pistol / Re: Model 80.SA and 90.DA side by side
« on: August 03, 2014, 10:14:01 PM »
An example of one of the older SA 80 boxes. I've seen 2 variations, one as the styrofoam box with carton wrap, similar to the DA 90, the other a more compact box as shown here.

Hi,

These have been discussed in a separate thread.

There are actually 3 variations, all commissioned by Mauser themselves:

The Mod. 80 SA, a direct FN HiPower copy.
The Mod. 90 DA, based on the S&W Model 56.
The Mod. 90 DA Compact, as above, but with slightly shorter slide/barrel.

Model HSC Pistol / Mauser HSc V3
« on: July 30, 2014, 11:55:11 PM »
This pistol recently surfaced from the estate of a former Mauser employee.

The basis appears to be an Interarms contract .32 ACP pistol that had the serial number removed and replaced with number V3, a serial number used by the R&D Department of Mauser (V for 'Versuch / Versuchsabteilung'). The barrel is a 9mmK / .380ACP version and the springs also are a bit stronger than usual. The hammer protrudes slightly further, so in order to remove the slide, the hammer must be pulled back slightly.

The slide and barrel have no proof markings, also no FBM markings. The frame is only FBM-marked and has no commercial proof (which one would expect in Germany, as it is legally required there).

The pistol itself is an early 1st variation, with the leaf spring disconnector, production somewhere in 1968 - 69.
Plastic grips are the early 'Mauser' type, not the AE Interams contract version.

I suspect that this pistol was somehow used as a 9mmK / .380ACP testbed, created by modifying a .32 version that was taken directly from regular production.
