Model HSC Pistol / Re: Can't get barrel back in
« on: January 08, 2017, 08:48:59 PM »
Many thanks for your quick, helpful, reply Warbird.  I used a 1/4" aluminum rod that I had in lieu of a plastic rod (that I don't have) and it worked immediately!  I also used leather gloves, since both thumbs are pretty sore from working this over the last few days.

To confirm that I had the barrel fully seated, I removed and re-assembled it.  Now that I'm an "expert" at this (ahem), I found another thing that helps is to rotate the recoil spring so the open coil point doesn't interfere with seating the barrel through the "bushing".

Thanks to the HSc Production Chart post http://www.mauserguns.com/forum/index.php/topic,6.0.html, I have to amend my original message in this thread that dates the gun from 1944 to 1943.

All of that said, I've been wanting one of these since the early 70's and have now added this specimen to my early 20th Century  .32 / 7.65 pocket pistol collection.

Regards,
Dorsey

Model HSC Pistol / Can't get barrel back in
« on: January 08, 2017, 04:17:33 PM »
I can't find an answer to this one, so I'm posting a new question.  I had received a lot of great help with my 1934, and hope to find the same with this question regarding my HSc.

I recently purchased an Eagle/L 1944 production in what appears to be unfired condition (probably wrong about this, though), and wanting to clean and preserve it, I pulled the barrel out, which was very difficult in itself.  Now, I can't get it back in.

From what I've seen in the YouTube universe on this gun, disassembly and reassembly only requires finger pressure to snap it out and then back into place.  On this gun, finger pressure alone barely compresses the recoil spring, and the barrel keeps sticking inside the front of the slide rather than protruding.  When I remove the spring, the barrel slides in pretty easily, so I think that I'm doing it right.

Am I missing something?  The hammer is cocked, the safety is on, and I've tried this with the magazine both in and out.  This doesn't seem like something that should be giving me this much trouble, but I'm stuck.

Thanks for any and all help.  Not that we don't all know what the parts look like, but I've posted a photo.

You accurately predicted my next question, and the annotated photo was very helpful.

Thanks again.

Model 1934 Pistol / "Rework" - does such a thing exist?
« on: May 11, 2015, 06:20:28 PM »
The dealer from whom I bought my 1934 had it listed as a "1934 rework" with a relative low price.  None of the references I have or have found online list such a thing.

Other than the standard commercial markings, there doesn't seem to be anything special or different about this gun.  It is in 98-99% condition (grips included), so I had feared that "rework" meant "refinished", but the markings are all crisp and the flat surfaces are flat.

Any thoughts?  I've been fortunate enough in the past to take advantage of a dealer's ignorance of a particular firearm, and this might be one of those times.  Because there are no Nazi markings, he might think that they had been removed.

Thanks for your help,
Dorsey

I removed the spring as you suggested, and it freed the slide so that I could remove it.  Thank you very much for that piece of advice.

I think that my next step is to re-fit the magazine spring and then re-assemble.

That's close, but I provided incorrect information earlier.  The slide is essentially locked back, not between the battery and fully rear positions.  It will slide forward about 1/8 inch from fully rearward.

Thanks for you quick reply.

Model 1934 Pistol / Can't slide off - not the usual problem
« on: May 11, 2015, 03:59:11 PM »
I just bought nearly new condition 1934 at a gun show and disassembled it to check out the internals, cleaning, and lubrication.  It's a really nice-looking gun.

Dis-assembly was pretty easy, but I couldn't get the slide back all the way upon re-assembly.  To see if either recoil or striker assemblies were binding or being caught in the mechanism, I removed those and re-assembled.  The slide now goes all the way back, but I can't get it off the frame.  It slides between the rear and battery position, but no further forward.

I've tried every combination of magazine in, magazine out, trigger pulled and not pulled in various horizontal positions of the frame on the slide to no avail.  I hope that I haven't "latched" some internal piece in some position from which I can't recover.  If I have, I will offer this gun for sale at a very reasonable price (ha-ha).

It feels to me as if the device that holds the slide back is not being dropped, if that helps any.

Thanks for any and all help,
Dorsey
