Model HSC Pistol / Alex Seidel
« on: September 22, 2019, 03:17:52 PM »
The grave of the father of the HSc and co-founder of Heckler & Koch, Alex Seidel.

Other designs from his hand are the HK4 and P7 pistols.

Although he did not get along with co-founder Theodor Koch, they are buried next to each other at the upper cemetery in Oberndorf am Neckar.

Model 1914 Pistol / Military marked holster
« on: August 07, 2019, 10:46:44 AM »
Found this holster locally:

Upon arrival I found both a Bekleidungsamt XI marking and a makers marking from F. Bierenbreier from Kehl.

Will go nicely with a military marked Mauser 1914 I have.

Found this nice old DWM .25 auto box. It specifically refers to the Mauser automatic pistol, should be ca. 1911.

Model 80SA / 90DA Pistol / Serial ranges, current status
« on: March 28, 2019, 09:03:30 AM »
I have been observing and regestering DA serial numbers for a few years now. The number of samples is now large enough to draw some early conclusions.

The observed numbers run from 90002000 to 90015000 and from 90020000 to 90026000.

It seems that 90015000 to 90019999 are missing. None observed in this range yet.

This suggests that no more than
19000 were made.

It would be interesting to see serial numbers:
Below 90002000.
Between 90015000 and 9002000.
Above 90026000.

The Compact DA is rare, it does not exceed 2000 at this time. Those observed fall between 91001000 and 91002200.

It has been in the display case for a couple of years now, time to let it see some light.

While re-reading a 2004 edition of 'Die Mauser HSP' by Friedrich Moll, I discovered that my Renato Gamba HSc 80 cutaway was actually shown in this book.

Model HSC Pistol / Interesting HSc users: The CIA.
« on: November 12, 2018, 07:32:07 AM »

Recently I was pointed towards a website with declassified CIA reports.

This yielded some interesting documents.

One document is a briefing and equiping document for a team that were sent into Yugoslavia via Greece in 1954.
The document lists the issued equipment for each members, and interestingly enough, mentions 3 Mauser pistols with their serial numbers. The numbers clearly show that these were Mauser HSc pistols.

Pistol number 907990 with holster, 21 rounds of ammo and 3 magazines.
Pistol number 821659 with holster, 21 rounds of ammo and 3 magazines.
Pistol number 904528 with holster, 21 rounds of ammo and 3 magazines.

Apart from those, they were equipped with Mauser K98 rifles and a 9mm 'Schmeisser' MP, number 6559.

Would be interesting to know if the 3 pistols still exist :)

M2 Modern Pistol / 1 is good, 2 is better, a pair is best
« on: November 08, 2018, 07:33:38 AM »
Followed an auction and saw a Mauser M2 with a number that looked familiar.

I already have .45 ACP version 2243 and today they were auctioning off 2242.

So now the guns will continue their lives as a matched pair.
