Model HSC Pistol / Re: HSC from my Grandfather

No it wouldn't. The K98k shown was either a 39 or 40 dated rifle. You can even see a straight winged eagle proof on the disc.

The "0.549" doesn't mean anything.

The "O.549" is most likely a Navy "Ostsee" property mark similar to the one shown on this K98k.

The stock is not the correct one for the rifle and also has been cut down. The rifle is a shooter at best and not worth anywhere near $1200.

Model HSC Pistol / 1942 variation 4th. Navy
« on: June 07, 2015, 05:47:36 PM »
I thought I would show what followed me home this weekend. I believe it is a 4th. variation Navy made approximately in December of 1942. The slide and barrel match and it has a plain flat bottom magazine.

General Mauser Rifle Questions / Re: Rifle grandpa brought back from WW2
« on: February 17, 2015, 07:38:12 AM »
You have a 1941 Portuguese contract Mauser that has been extensively sporterised. The rear sight, handguard and barrel band are not original to the rifle. The stock (also not original to the rifle)  has been cut down and the wooden plugs cover original cutouts in it. Originally it was chambered for 7,92x57 AKA 8mm Mauser.

The image represents what it originally looked like.
