Title: Two Mauser P.38s with holsters
Post by: smindel on July 10, 2015, 02:17:07 PM
Here (please see attached pics) are two Mauser P.38s (1943 & 1944) that my Grandfather and Great Uncle brought back from Europe after the war.  Serial numbers match internally as well. They also have holsters with extra magazines.
Any information that you could share would be appreciated.
Thank you!

The byf 44 "t" block seems to be in excellent shape although I can't see it all..with the softshell holster, assuming no tears or hole ,rig should be worth about $800-900.
I can't make out a thing on the byf43.The holster is a hardshell and value will depend upon condition, date, and maker.
Use this as a guide for I can't see bore, grips, etc.

My guess about $850-$950..depending on holster markings...

Looks like they made about 88,000 of your second variation BYF 43.  The BYF 44 looks to be a second variation with 120,000 reported produced.  Reichert's Production chart show both of them to be about a 2 on a scale of 1 to 10 in rating for collecting.  Some people agree with the late Orv and some have another view.  Wished I could help you on the holsters, but I have limited skill in that area.
