Title: #1 on 1910/14
Post by: HWaA on March 11, 2018, 01:06:34 PM
I picked up a common 1910/1914 6.35mm the other day just because it had not been messed with and it looked pretty clean. All matching numbers, nice grip, good bore, functioned well. When I was stripping it down for a good cleaning I noticed on the left side, on the back of the trigger guard there was a #1 that I had not seen. I never looked for a number here before on these guns. Dug out my Roy Pender book, looked around online. Nothing. Unit marking? Any ideas?

The "1" is most likely a machinist or inspectors mark. Done at the factory to indicate who or which machine it was done on or that it passed some tolerance inspection. If you look closely at any Mauser pistol you will find small markings, usually in places you will only see when disassembled. The meaning of most, if not all of these markings has been lost to time.

Regards,

Thanks for your insight 1914mauser. I had never seen a number or mark on a Mauser in this location except on the HSc. The Germans sure liked stamps and numbers. But the quality of their work amazes me. True craftsman.
