1912 Mauser all matching....
« on: December 20, 2017, 01:26:15 PM »
Hello everyone,

It is a honor to be here on this forum.  I currently have a 1912 Mauser, 7mm as stamped on the barrel.  My first question is ammo, I was told to use 7x57,  is there any other ammo I can use safely for this rifle.  Secondly,  I do not want to restore this firearm completely . But I would like to remove the shine off of the stock, and possibly even out the tones in the wood. But still keep the darkness of the wood.  Possibly thinking of a light sanding without removing any of the stampzings, then to re-oil or stain in a dark finish similar to what's there now but in a matte finish.   Open to suggestions for the best way to achieve this. And do we leave the metal parts as it is to keep the authenticity of the firearm.  Thank you
