Pistols > C96 / C12 Broomhandle
Handbuilt C96 clone cutaway
(1/1)
vlim:
A handcrafted C96 built around a 9mm Uzi barrel. Unfortunatly the creator used construction drawings that were distorted, leading to a gun that is a factor 1.2 to 1.3 larger than the original. This meant the pistol did not repeat properly. It was turned into a cutaway eventually.

Warbird:
I have to applaud the creator's effort in the original build but why continue to spend more time making a cutaway out of the failure? Cutaways are made as a sales tool or learning device and from what I can see here, it did not satisfy either requirement. Just thinking out loud (would that be JTOL in a Tweeter?).
vlim:
It still has merit as a learning device, as the basic functions of the C96 can be demonstrated. It also serves as a learning aid for gun smiths. Get your measurements right and check your drawings :)

I knew a gentleman who rehabbed shot out C96s, mostly Chinese imports. When he would encounter a pistol that was beyond repair, usually due to metal fatigue or damage, he would often turn them into cutaways. This would turn an unserviceable pistol into something he could sell. Factory cutaways being so rare it was easy to find a market for created ones. It makes for a more interesting paper weight.
