What a shame. 1914 Police Marked

(1/1)

pardt:
Ran across this police marked 1914 Mauser. What a shame someone decided to engrave someone's name and some numbers on either side of the pistol. For Those keeping records it is L.G. marked

1914mauser:
We have to remember that these where not as collected in the past. Often war surplus was acquired for personal or home defense and owners marked them so if they were stolen they would more likely be recovered. Not everyone is interested in the history of their firearm. It is acquired to meet a need.

Good points Burgess, my grandfather definitely used all his guns as tools and as such they all have extreme amounts of finish wear. His guns were meant to put food on the table, nothing more.
I would still buy the pistol if it goes cheap enough. But it's already at that point where I probably won't bid
