Large Ring C96 Broomhandle - additional and unusual markings
« on: November 23, 2020, 07:52:20 PM »
 Hi folks,
I am trying to track down these stamps, which are below the Mauser serial number on the backstrap. They look to be of the same vintage, but not a Mauser factory stamp (I don't think)....

I first thought these numbers were stock serial numbers from John Rigby & Co, the English retailer, but now believe that that's not the case.
Now I think they might be from a 'Jaeger Regiment' quartermaster, but no idea other than that.

Any thoughts out there....  or has someone got a C96 with similar markings?
 thanks,
 Mike

May I ask you for the serial number? I know another Mauser with J.r. characters and with the same series 20xxx.

Germany used the J. and I. intermittantly.
So it's most probably an abbreviation for an Infantry Regiment.

It's certainly not an abbreviation for an infantry regiment.

Well, the topic starter probably doesn't want to solve his riddle...
