Buffalo Bill’s Amberg Model 71? For real?
« on: July 10, 2022, 08:20:32 AM »
As is usual for me, I placed a bid on this weeks ago because I thought it looked interesting, but fully expected the bids to go much higher. Then I get a notice I won.
I’ll leave it up to you guys to explain to me if I had a stroke of fortune, or just a stroke for buying this thing.

It also came with this “certificate of authenticity” and email print out.

So no one has anything of interest to comment on this M71? I would think someone here might have so knowledge on this rifle. Any thoughts welcome.

Apparently not. I am sure someone might be interested as you are. I am sure Bill Cody was gifted all sorts of arms during the tour of the Wild West show along with firearm he was know to have owned. Possibly he was gifted this in Europe. There is the Buffalo Bill Museum that may be able to authenticate this particular rifle to Bill. Without that no collector is going to pay for a story and the certificate accompanying the auction is not sufficient provenance to effect the price. Regards,

Thank you for your comment. I’m not looking to sell it. Just trying to determine if it was in fact owned by Bill. I’ll shoot it and enjoy. Maybe one day I’ll find the truth about this gun. If I can take a deer with it I’ll be tickled.
