Help identify this C96
« on: June 16, 2023, 10:46:19 AM »
Hello everyone,

I've come to your forum to try to get some help on identifying this C96 I recently picked up. Never had one before, but this one seems to allude me in terms of identifying it with my available resources.

Serial number indicates that it's a 1930s German production C96, and it has high quality proofmarks and writing on the "upper" part, near the breech.

However, it has some noticeably crude style of milling marks on the "lower" and has what appear to be clearly hand faked Mauser logos. Interestingly, the upper and lower parts have matching serials.

I suspected it was a Chinese fakery, but there are no Chinese symbols on it anywhere and the proofmarks on the top do not appear fake to me.

So I ask you experts if you could please tell me if this is a Chinese fake or if it is a German made C96 that someone though deserved a Mauser logo or something?

I appreciate any and all help. Thank you.

Sounds like a Chinese copy/ refurbished example. Regards,
