Dads Mauser rifle from WW2
« on: February 19, 2014, 11:48:55 PM »
Hello out there in Mauser land..
I am new to this forum.  I am looking for some info about a Mauser rifle that was given to me by my Dad. He landed in Europe D-Day+3 in WW2. He was a part of the Patton army and traveled across Europe. Some type of Specialist, one thing he did was to dispose of captured enemy weapons. Being a farm boy from Kentucky, he did not think it proper to break perfectly good guns, so he boxed up many in ammo cases and sent them back home to the farm country he was from. He made many farmers from his community happy.
I have one rifle that I am currently thinking of handing down to the next generation. I am wondering if anyone can tell me anything about this rifle. Some particulars are as follows.
Stamped in the metal are
Mauser-Werke A.G. Oberndorf    also
Deutfches Sportmodell     I think this is what it says    also
Kal. 22 LANG FUR BUCHSEN     also
21127 stamped in barrel and in area where you insert the bullet    also
1127 on the bolt and safety lever.
I used this rifle to get my Boy Scout merit badge about 50 years ago. It worked then, hasn't been fired since. I suspect it still works. It has been stored and appears to be in good shape as far as I can tell. Stock is in good shape, the leather sling deteriorated and finally fell apart...I still have it.
Any info greatly appreciated.

Glenn,
What an interesting story.  Can you post some photos?

You have a DSM 34.  These were made by at least a half dozen mfgrs, but the Mauser is one of the most sought after.
