police marked 1914 with odd serial #

I was looking at gunbroker and saw a 1914 Mauser with a serial # of 163 with the slide and frame both having those # and it looked like the barrel also had just the 3 digit #. However the slide is definetly post ww1. The gun has police markings. Any thoughts ?

I own a Mauser 1914, serial number 1, Police marked. It is NOT an early humpback. Apparently there is at least one, and maybe more police groups that had their Mausers numbered in a separate serial number block

What is the police marking on your pistol ??, Can you show a few photo's ??

I don't own it , I was looking at it on gunbroker. I bid on it but was pretty quickly outbid.
That is a good theory on why they where numbered different.
I did save a few of the pictures and will try to attach them.

1914mauser:
This is a Weimar era police marked 1914 that was produced in the 1920s. The apparently low serial number is because the police department ordered them in their own serial number range which matched the weapon number. Just proves anything is possible with Mauser. The example on gunbroker is listed in Don Maus's book "A History Written in Steel" and maybe that is why it sold for so much, well over value in my opinion. Some new collectors would be well served to buy some books and do some homework before they bid in Internet auctions. Just MHO.
