Can't slide off - not the usual problem
« on: May 11, 2015, 03:59:11 PM »
I just bought nearly new condition 1934 at a gun show and disassembled it to check out the internals, cleaning, and lubrication.  It's a really nice-looking gun.

Dis-assembly was pretty easy, but I couldn't get the slide back all the way upon re-assembly.  To see if either recoil or striker assemblies were binding or being caught in the mechanism, I removed those and re-assembled.  The slide now goes all the way back, but I can't get it off the frame.  It slides between the rear and battery position, but no further forward.

I've tried every combination of magazine in, magazine out, trigger pulled and not pulled in various horizontal positions of the frame on the slide to no avail.  I hope that I haven't "latched" some internal piece in some position from which I can't recover.  If I have, I will offer this gun for sale at a very reasonable price (ha-ha).

It feels to me as if the device that holds the slide back is not being dropped, if that helps any.

Thanks for any and all help,
Dorsey

That's close, but I provided incorrect information earlier.  The slide is essentially locked back, not between the battery and fully rear positions.  It will slide forward about 1/8 inch from fully rearward.

Thanks for you quick reply.

What happen if you remove magazine catch spring?
I think it'ts the only way to make that the slide can moving again without forcing any part.
Else wait for an answer from Burgess

I removed the spring as you suggested, and it freed the slide so that I could remove it.  Thank you very much for that piece of advice.

I think that my next step is to re-fit the magazine spring and then re-assemble.

Ok..when you re-assamble look at the picture I've sent earlier, that magazine catch spring is on the left side of the hold open device.

You accurately predicted my next question, and the annotated photo was very helpful.

Thanks again.

You're welcome, but the most thanks have to go to Burgess Mason, a specialist in this kind of Mausers. He helped a lot of people here at this and other forums and if he write some things about Mausers, read it and read it again. You're never be to old to learn..so I'm 70, and glad there are persons like Burgess.
