Clarification of M98 Sporter
(1/1)
bkmeis:
Hello Mauser collectors,
I have come across what was identified as a M98 Sporter chambered in 22-250.
If you take a look at the photos, you will see 1915 stamped on the barrel. I believe 22-250 was
not created until the 1960's. I'm no Mauser scholar, so I could use some assistance identifying what I
am working with. The rifle is in pieces at the moment so I don't have an assembled photo.
Thanks for any help.
Having difficulty adding the remaining 2 photos.....working it.

with the striper clip cut out on the receiver tells me that it was a military mauser some one has made a sporter out of it in the years since, it did not start it's life out as a 22-250

The 1915 date is on the receiver. The barrel screws into the receiver so the later caliber is the chamber of the barrel that was installed into the earlier receiver when it was converted from a military rifle to a sporter.

Mine has been re-chambered and looks like that also with the new caliber stamped into the barrel. Mine is stamped 30-06.
