HSc 9mm Kurz with mis-stamped S/N?
« on: February 18, 2016, 08:32:57 AM »
Greetings,

I have a MauserHSc chambered for the 9mm Kurz and to my knowledge has never been fired or altered.  The serial number begins 00.xxxxx, but I have been told that the serial number should begin with 01.xxxxx and that only the 32 auto versions began with 00.xxxxx.  Now to add a slight twist, I found someone who had posted on the S&W forum requesting information about the same issue that I bring up here...the twist...his HSc serial number was sequential with mine!

Any information about this would be greatly appreciated!

A number of "00" (.32 Caliber) pistols in the 1970 to 1971 period were finished in .380 Caliber by the Mauser factory.  I suspect this was done because the American market preferred the larger caliber and inventory was needed to meet that demand.

With a complete serial number I can tell you where your HSc falls within that group.

thanks for responding...my serial number is 00.10164
Do you know an approx. value to these?  ...as I had said in my first post, it's like new condition.
Thanks again,
Terry

Your HSc is toward the end of the period that started about 00.7500 (March 1970) and ended about 00.11750 (February 1971).  The "00" .380's were produced intermittently throughout that time frame.  By the way, the only difference between the .32 and .380 is the Barrel and Recoil Spring.  If you intend to spend a lot of time on the range with it, I would recommend investing in a .32 Barrel since the .380 has a tendency to break parts.

Value of your pistol in the condition you mention would be between $400 and $450.  If it is nickel plated add another $50 to that range.  Hope that helps.  Anything else, let me know.
