1944 HSc?
CCT:
I believe I have a late 1944 production HSc based upon serial #9256XX. The only marking is an eagle over "N" on the right trigger guard web which I believe means it is a commercial model. This was given to me by my father who was in France and Belgium during WWII. It came with a holster which I believe may have been original to the gun, but I can't be sure of that. My curiosity is with the holster, as there is an area on the flap that has been blackened for some reason. I have pictures on my phone, but don't know how to post them on this forum. If someone knows how to do that I could send them the photos from my phone. Thank you for any help.
Warbird:
Welcome, CCT. I would be glad to help if I can. Pictures and a complete serial number would be necessary. Determination of Commercial or not depends on the LEFT side of the Trigger Guard. If no markings there, then it's Commercial. Other markings signify Military or Police Acceptance. Finish and matched serial numbers are very important also.
You will have to transfer your pictures to a computer then use the "Attach: Browse..." function to upload them to the site. Best size is under 800KB and maximum size is 1MB.
CCT:
Thanks, Warbird! There are no markings on the left side; only the eagle over "N" on the right. The barrel is numbered 652 which matches the serial number of 925652. Are there other places I should search for matching numbers? I'll need to work on downloading the pictures tomorrow. Thanks, again.
Warbird:
"652" should be hand written (electro-penciled) on the flat area under the nose of the Slide. Production date was in fact September 1944, only a few months after the Allies hit the beaches at Normandy, France. I look forward to your confirmation of the third serial number and the photos after which I will try to give you a current value (depending on the quality of your pictures)..
CCT:
652 was barely visible on the nose of the slide. I would have never seen it if you hadn't told me where to look. Thanks! I hope my pictures come through. I'm getting an error message that my file is too large. I'll try sending a single picture at a time. That didn't work. Not sure what I'm doing wrong
