Not sure where to begin

I was just gifted a rifle that I think is a 1871 Mauser but I'm not certain. Would love help in identifying it. Where do I begin?

It is best to provide some pictures of the over rifle both sides and then detailed pictures of all markings. Use several post if necessary.

Siamese Mauser....most were built in Japan with 2-piece buttstock..
