Mauser HSc fires with safety lever on
« on: June 29, 2017, 08:06:36 PM »
I just bought a Mauser Hsc .380 circa 1970 from local gun store. I was cleaning the gun when I dropped it. It looks like everything is in working order but I noticed that when I cock the hammer and push down on the safety lever, the hammer falls forward when the trigger is pulled. Is this normal?

Welcome lawdog89.  The function is normal for this model and is called "Decocking the Hammer."  However, as a matter of safety, I would not use this feature on a loaded HSc.  Rather lower the Hammer with your thumb on a loaded Chamber as is normal procedure to decock the pistol if it is not to be fired immediately.  From this condition it can then be fired double-action if necessary.

It is a safety issue for me because, sooner or later, muscle memory will allow you to pull the Trigger without the Safety ON and you will inadvertently fire the pistol ... not good!

Thanks! I thought this rather odd. I'm still getting used to inserting a magazine just to close the slide.
