Trouble with Mauser 1914 Disassembly

I have a big problem with my Model 1914 during disassembly.  I remove the Guide Rod.  Then move the slide to the rear and remove the Barrel.  At that point I insert the Magazine to release the Slide forward.  I pull the trigger to release tension on the Firing Pin and attempt to allow the slide to move forward off of the frame but it only moves about 1/4" and is stopped by some sort of obstruction that cannot be seen.  The pistol seems to function perfectly fine otherwise but I am unable to field strip it for cleaning.  Has anyone else experienced this or ever heard of this problem occurring with a Model 1914.  Please Help Me.

Remove the magazine catch spring, possible you mounted the wrong way...when mounting back the magazine spring needs to be at the left side of the Ejector & hold-open catch, as I remember.
Else wait for an answer from Burgess,  the specialist for this kind of Mausers.

Welcome to the forum! You did not state that you removed the magazine after you re-inserted it. That could be the problem, if not proceed as Geert advised but be careful to re-install the magazine catch spring with its top end in the correct orientation when you re-assemble.

I would advise that if you have removed the Magazine try reinserting it again once the slide has been stopped, then removing it again and see if the slide has been freed up to slide forward. Also I don't see why it would make a difference but try not pulling the trigger to release the firing pin before disasembly. That's how I take mine apart. However take care then not to have the firing pin release before having ahold of it.

I believe I have found the cause of my problem.  When I insert the magazine to release the slide forward, the hold open device is not fully depressed as it should be.  I either have a worn magazine or the magazine I have is not the proper one for my pistol.  In either case I see that I must now find a replacement magazine for a Mauser 1914 Pistol.  I suppose this will be as easy as finding chickens with teeth.  I thank all of you that responded, you helped me identify my problem and now I can move on to the more difficult task of correcting it by finding a replacement magazine.  Again, thank you.

Not necessarily hard to find a replacement Magazine. It is hard to find one for cheap. They available for around $100+ off of eBay and gunbroker
