No, not a sniper.  If memory serves the FN export Mauser style rifle was the Mod 30.  It, like the Czech VZ 24 and Polish Radom were all very similar to the German Standard Model which became the K98k.

From you photos I'd say you have an FN mod 30 made before WW 2, probably in 7mm, But could be 8mm depending ow what country the crest on the receiver represents. 
This was FNs export rifle to compete with the German Mauser Standard Model/K98k rifles.

The rifle is a pre WW 2 Mauser.  Could be a Mod 91, 93, 95 or less likely a Gew 98.  What ever it is/was it has been rebarreled if it is now 30/06.

First - Totaly unlikely that any initials are those of the German soldier who carried the pistol! 
Like the Americans, the Germans did not NOT scratch their initials on their weapons, that would have gotten them in trouble for defacing government property! 
There are NO rekords of who carried any particular weapon in the US Army in WW2 and we won the war. 
You will never know who carried that P.38.  Is there a letter after the ser nr?

The rifle was made by Mauser Oberndorf in 1935, yes 8891 is the ser nr.  IF there is a letter after or below, it is also part of the ser nr. 
You should be able to do that with out a scope - at least out to 200 yds!!!  IF not you need to practice a lot! 
I have killed cyotes, antelope & deer with both a K98k and a K 43.  I do not hunt with anything but an 8mm.  I also do not use a scope!

WHAT documentation???  You have what is most likely a vet bring back from WW 1 that was later sporterized. 
Value will depend on it's condition and the quality of the work done on it.  It will also be determined by what the going price is for a butchered war trophy in your area.

The rifle is a sporterized WW 1 Gew 98.  It could be in any caliber, but since he has lots of 270 that is "probably" it.  Try putting one rd in the muzzle bullet down, if it goes in to the shoulder it is a larger caliber.  If it stops before it gets to the shell case it is probably 270.  Then try loading one of the 270s and see if it will chamber - do this with the safety in the verticle position. 
BUT to be absulutelty sure you should take it to a gunsmith and have him verifly the caliber.

I got my first K98k, from an uncle who had brought it back, in 1953.  It is an all matching, first week production byf 44.  Unfortunately in those days i had never heard of capture papers and by the time I knew about them my uncle was dead. 
I also have a similar nr of bnz coded rifles.  I think I've got 65 or 70 98ks in total.

I was raised in western Mo, lots of humidity.  If we didn't wipe our guns off with a lightly oiled rag when we came in from hunting on Sat afternoon there were rusty fingerprints on them the next morning when we got ready to go out again for the day. 
When we were done for the day or weekend, everything got a thourough cleaning, inside & out and was wiped down with a lightly oiled sheep skin before they were put away.  This was done everytime we had anything out and shot it. 

I have lived in Colorado for the past 40 yrs and this country has ruined me as far as cleaning guns is concerned.  I almost never do!  The dry climate removes almost all problems including to have to clean good after shooting corrosive ammo.  I generally clean my shooting stock a couple of times a year, mostly just for the hell of it. 
I have a MAC 10 that I bought new in 1976 and have done my best to abuse it just to see how good they really are - Let me tell you, they are as good as any gun can be!  I have around 9 or 10K thru it and untill a trip to Okla a couple of years ago it had Never had a cleaning rod in the bbl or a drop of oil put on it.  Back there because of the humidity it got disassembled and cleaned good.  First time I've had it apart since I first got it. 
The only concession to cleaning the MAC was that I always fired the last 1 or 2 rds of the day with non corrosive ammo.  Everything else I have shot has been corrosive.  Actually, I usualy do this with most of my guns. 
I know that many will not buy/shoot corrosive ammo because of the problems it causes.  I am very fortunate to live where I do.   When I go to a gun show I look for the older WW 2 vintage ammo because it is always cheaper than the newer NC ammo.  My 98k, Garand, MP 40, Sten,  Thompson and BAR eat the corrosive just fine AND I don't have to clean them at the end of the day - even the gas operated ones.

Got on and registered back in Apr and then have had major problems trying to get back on.  Thanx to help from the "Head Shed" I seem to have gotten around that problem.  I found that my old book mark was no good so had to go on the net and get back in that way.  I now have the new site bookmarked so hopefully no more problems. 
I like the new site.  It seem to be good and "airy and bright".  Still got a bit of getting used to, but I like it! 
So far I don't see many of the regulars from the old site here.  Where the heck are they?   
To bad our post count and original date of sign up don't transfer over from the old site.  Now everyone is a newby. 
Is the old site going to be available indefinately?  If not are our photo archeives going to be saved?  That was sometime good reference to be able to go look at photos that had been previously filed there.  I don't see a similar place on the new site.
