OK ... best I can do is 1971-1972.  If there is a Proof Mark on the right side of the Frame in front of the Trigger with a letter code we can pin it down further but I could not make it out from your photo.  Nothing in the database on this serial number so it hasn't come up before.

You still need to confirm the last serial number match on the Barrel when you field strip it for cleaning.  The .380 does have a tendency to break parts so I would not shoot it too much and be sure to inspect the internals closely before heading to the range.

Anything else (including the Proof Mark) let me know.

You posted the wrong pictures, mitchgoo.  This is definitely NOT a Mauser HSc .380 caliber pistol.

Hello mitchgoo and welcome!  I'll be glad to help you with your "new" HSc if you can upload pictures or at least a better description including the full serial number.  That's used to get year of manufacture and also if I have any history from previous owners.

By the way, it's not stainless steel, it's nickel plated probably from the factory.  If the Trigger and Manual Safety are blued, that would point to it being original factory.  Did it come in original case and do the serial numbers match?

As I said, be glad to help but need pictures and/or more information.

Welcome to the Forum, ksprenger.  Your .380 HSc (correct serial number is 01.5439) was produced by Mauser in 1970.  "01" is .380 caliber and "00" is .32 caliber in the serial number.  Anything else let me know.

Gerben, what is the story on the KK80 ammunition?

The Disconnector moves the Trigger Bar to reset after firing the pistol.  It prevents the HSc from going into full auto.  So it is not relevant to your present problem.

The Slide recoil or "pull back" should be smooth and even until it meets the resistance of the Hammer cocking, forcing the Mainspring down and resetting it on the Sear.  Other than that, there is nothing to interfere with the normal rearward movement of the Slide.

Your understanding of the Slide/Magazine action is correct.  It was Mauser's innovative design to speed up reloading along with the tapered mouth of the Magazine Well.

I would suggest you reinstall the original Recoil Spring.  It sounds like your new Spring is for a .380 caliber, i.e., stronger, that could overwhelm the Magazine Safety.  If that doesn't work (with your new Magazine Safety Spring), the only thing left is to replace the Magazine Safety itself.

Congratulations on your gift and welcome to the Forum!  Your Early Wartime German Army or Heerwas made in June 1941, just six months after production began.  As you can see on the Production Chart, the Army was the largest buyer of the HSc during WWII.

Hopefully, all three serial numbers match on your pistol.  Look for them on the Barrel Breech, nose of the Slide, and, of course, on the Frame bottom of the Grip.  These Early Wartime pistols are prized by collectors because of their fine finish and precise construction.  As the war progressed quality was sacrificed for output to a certain extent.

If there is anything else, let me know.

Yes ... that would be a good idea.  The long Trigger Bar Spring fits in a groove on the bottom of the Trigger Bar.  I just want to be sure it isn't causing an issue with the Magazine Safety.  Be sure your screwdriver is a close fit to the Grip Screw so it doesn't damage the Screw or the wood of the Grip Panel.

Any chance you could borrow a camera or cellphone (ugh!) from someone so you could take the photos?  I'm sort of flying blind here, grasping at anything that comes to mind since I hadn't experienced this problem before.

Couple of more things ... did you remove the Trigger Bar when you disassembled the HSc?  Also, there is a long Spring (not coiled) that fits in a groove on the bottom of the Trigger Bar on these New Model pistols (not shown in the drawing).  Would you check to be sure it's there and not behind the Trigger Bar?

Well ... with the serial number I can tell you that your HSc was produced in December 1944 as part of a large run for the German Army.  The Navy had stopped purchasing the HSc in November so that almost all production went to the Army and various Police organizations.

You may be interested in knowing that over here what you have is called a "DeWaT" for Deactivated Wartime Trophy.  And, by the way, thanks for sharing.

Most photos have to be 72 pixels per inch to download successfully and a width of about 640 to 800 pixels fits our forum screens pretty well.  Continue to look forward to hearing about your progress ...

Hello Bart, and Welcome to the Forum!  Sad to say, if the Latch is welded you are done.  However, with the Latch welded the pistol could not have been assembled.  So I am thinking that it is just stuck into place by rust or dirt.  Sometimes they are very hard to pull down ... I use a nylon patch holder to bring it down without hurting the finish.  If that does not work, turn it upside down and soak it for a few hours with penetrating oil or (better yet) WD40 if available over there.

With the Latch free, you should be able to remove the Slide even with the Magazine inserted.  Besides the Safety ON, you might have to hold the Hammer back (cocked) also ... with your third hand!

I take it from your description that this Late Wartime HSc has an Army Acceptance Mark (WaA135) on the left side of the Trigger Guard.  Would you confirm that and also provide the complete serial number?  Use "My Messages" to me if you don't want the number made public.  Look forward to hearing from you on the information request and results of freeing the Barrel Latch.

OK ... I'm a believer!  I attached an Assembly Drawing so we are both on the same page.  From what you said, the hook at the rear of the Magazine Safety (Part #07) is hitting/grabbing the Slide on its way back to battery.  Do I have that right?  If so, the rear hook and/or bar of the Safety has to be bent, burred, or cocked somehow for this to happen.  Any indications of that?

You misunderstood my request.  I want you to take the Barrel without the Slide and lock it into place on the Frame.  You are checking that the Barrel locks firmly into the dovetail formed by the Disassembly Latch and the Frame.  If someone replaced the Barrel with a WWII vintage one it will not lock down firmly.  If the Barrel does not lock down, it will cant the Slide preventing it from moving into battery.

I am leaning on this because it is the point where the two major assemblies (Frame and Slide) are joined by the Barrel lock.  The only other thing I can think at the moment is an obstruction in the Slide Rails on the Frame.  You might want to check them with a magnifier.

Finally, some close up pictures of the Slide and Frame would be great if these suggestions do not work.  Let's keep at for awhile before you have to pay a 'smith to look at it.  I have nothing but time to help you with it.
