Model HSC Pistol / Re: HSc reassembly
« on: August 30, 2018, 12:57:53 PM »
After more thought, I just don't see how the Magazine Safety is blocking the Slide unless it is coming off its pin.  Check that it is almost flush with the Frame.  Then check that the Guide Lever (center of the Sear) is all the way down.  Finally, I would like you to take the Barrel out of the Slide and insert it into the dovetail on the Frame.  Your checking for fit here to be sure it is solidly locked into place with no play at all.

Let me know if any of that worked and if you have any questions on the above.  Again, Magazine out, Hammer cocked, and Safety ON when reassembling.

I haven't heard of that issue before ... congratulations!  Off the top the only thing that immediately comes to mind is - you don't have a Magazine inserted while assembling the Slide do you?  Also don't forget to have the Safety ON and Hammer cocked (same as dissembling).

I'll give it some more thought.  Meanwhile, waiting to hear an answer from you.

Model HSC Pistol / Re: German Police HSc Pictures (Part 2)

Good to hear that all serial numbers match.  As far as photo size goes, I have found that 650 pixels wide fits our screen size so we don't get the slide bar to move it around.  Unfortunately, our forum does not have an automatic adjust for the size.

If you decide to use out "Attach:" option, you will also need to bring down your Resolution to about 75 pixels per inch.  I notice your photo is at 275 ppi now.

Anyway, good stuff Tim and great to hear from you.  Stay in touch.

Thanks for the photos, Tim.  Wish they had been somewhat smaller and added with the "Attach:" option but it's still OK as is.  Looks like this HSc did not receive much TLC in the past.  Hope you plan to give it a good cleaning and oiling!

I looked at your previous post and you didn't mention if the Slide serial number matches as does the Barrel Breech.  Also I can confirm that the Magazine is the correct era for this pistol.  Look forward to hearing if the Slide number matches.

Hi Jim:  I think you are looking at this as if this HSc would have made it out of the factory had it not been made into a Cut Away.  It could be (and probably was) a reject off the line that was turned into a training aid.

Peter talked to the owner some years ago and he kindly gave us permission to put it into the book (page 30).  I have no doubt that this is a legitimate, non-blued (in the white) training device as built.  But it is always good to ask questions as you have!  Keep looking ...

Welcome to the Forum, Marc!  I have followed some of your work on GunBoards and look forward to your contributions here.  We are certainly not as big but growing (almost) every day.

Once again, WELCOME!

Model HSC Pistol / Re: Slide lock and feeding issues

The forward part of the bar contacts the Magazine when it is inserted.  The rear hook catches the notch in the Slide with an upward movement when the Magazine is released.  If you insert and release a Magazine you can see the whole cycle.

Have you replaced the Recoil Spring?  If not, it could be overpowering the Mag Safety.  The problem is there we just have to locate it.  In all these years I have only had one case where it had to be replaced and that was where it was obviously bent.

OK ... lots going on here.  Your Slide locking issue is probably caused by the Magazine Safety timing or wear.  Hopefully you have an Assembly Drawing, if not I can add it to the Forum post (can't on this message).  So the Magazine Safety is a spring loaded hooked bar on the left side of the Frame toward the rear.  It needs to be thoroughly cleaned and lubricated.  Check that is moves easily and the small spring at the rear of the bar is in place.  The hook at the forward end catches a notch in the Slide when a Magazine is removed (timing).  The Magazine Follower holds the Slide back until it is removed, then the Magazine Safety is supposed to drop in that notch to continue holding it back.

The two issues of the Slide being hard to pull back and the cartridge mis-feeds are both related to the Recoil Spring.  It's probably a replacement that is too strong.  Replace it with the Wolff Recoil Spring and I'm betting both problems go away.

The clear plastic Grips are after-market.  I know what you mean about the milled finish because I have a pair also.  I have attached a PDF file of the HSc Assembly drawing.  Part Numbers 7 and 30 are those I have been discussing.  I think that should do it.  Let me know how you make out.

Isn't that what he said? Or am I missing something here?

Welcome to the Forum.  From your description you have a unique Holster used by the German Luftwaffe (Airforce).  If it has not been modified, it could be worth several hundred dollars.

Your Early Wartime HSc was produced in April 1942.  Look on the left side of the Trigger Guard near the Grip.  The symbols there (if any) will tell me what part of the German Armed Forces it was assigned to.  There are also three serial numbers that should match but you will have to disassemble the pistol to check on these.  All this and, of course, overall condition are critical to its value.

I look forward to hearing from you about it.

OK ... to refine your estimate a little further, your Early Wartime Police accepted HSc production date is December 1941.  It's hard to talk to the condition based on one photo.  Of course, the Grip panel is chipped on the upper corner and it looks like a larger than normal screw head was/is used to hold it on.  Bluing is somewhat worn, perhaps 80% to 85%.  Don't know if the Magazine is correct without at least a description.

That's about all the information I can provide you with.  Anything else, I'm always here.

Greetings, Tim and Welcome!  I will be glad to answer any questions you might have about your HSc but since you didn't ask any I don't know where to go from here.  To start with I need the complete serial number to date it for you.  If you are looking for an appraisal of value I need more photos of different views including the Magazine.  Anything else ... let me know.

WOW!  Gerben, another remarkable find!  When did Mauser produce these and what is the HV for?  High Velocity?  So many questions ...

Model HSC Pistol / Re: Hsc sear variation...early and later

Vlim is absolutely correct.  The on-going patent issues forced Mauser to modify the Sear design about serial number 860000 (September 1943).
