Model 71/84 Rifle / 1886 71/84 carbine

I have an 1886 mauser model 71/84 ciarbine, with spandau stamp. would love to learn more about this gun. where were they issued? is it an arsenal conversion? is it rare? would include pics, but the site keeps telling me "file size is too large"
