This pistol is completely commercially proofed (Eagle/N) and has a police acceptance marking (Eagle/L).
It was delivered by Mauser to the German police in 1943 and has a 2-digit serial number.
The pistol received british proof markings at a certain time, and it turned up in Israel. So it certainly made an interesting journey.

What great pieces of history. That these pistols ended up in Israeli hands is both incredible and ironic.
Thanks for posting!

Very nice, I like the two-digit serial number. I know some don't like the British proofs, but I don't mind them. They look fine compared to the ugly U.S. Import marks that look like a billboard ad. Nice find,

Nice P.38 and a great mysterios history - makes it even more exiting...

I have always enjoyed seeing the British proofs. Nice looking example.

I have a lot of P.38s, but I don't think I have a polizei proofed one. Never went looking for them and when I found one they were more $$ than I wanted to pay.
Probably should have put one in the collection as I have other polizei proofed pistols, but ---
British proofs to me are no different than the importers marks on guns here in the US. They only show that the gun came into the country after a certain time. Unless the billboard dot matrix type marks, done by a couple of idiot importers, they would not keep me from buying a gun that I needed in my collection!
