Title: Consecutive Police E/F HSc Mausers Reunited
Post by: nieuport1 on September 02, 2017, 12:23:05 PM
By pure luck I was fortunate to locate and acquire the sibling to an HSc already in my collection.

Any/all comments are welcome.

Warbird, do you know what date these were produced (please)?

Your Late Wartime HSc's were produced in February 1945.  My notes have 947177 with a purple tinted Frame which implies an incomplete or incorrect bluing process.  Overall, though, a unique acquisition for your collection.  Congratulations!

Jim and Alan, thank you very much. Alan, if 947177 has a bluing issue, then so too does 947176. Might you have a picture of an example of a purple tinted HSc frame you would share? I'd be pleased to take/post "revealing" pictures of this pair if I know what to look for/capture in the image. I'd merely compare these with another late war blued example if I had one, but I've only got phosphate.

I don't have any purple examples in my archive, Doug.

Thank you Gerben.

Alan, I am not seeing a purple tinted frame, but definitely the frame has a thinner/lighter bluing than the slide - notice the "dual-tone" effect in picture below.

Do these electro-pencil sevens ("7") look atypical to anyone else but me? I have no other example to compare them with.

Your photo is comparing the area with the most worn finish on the pistol, i.e., the rear Grip Strap.  Try it with the Frame Web forward of the Trigger Guard.

The numbers on the Barrel are stamped and not electro-penciled.  The sevens look fine to me, Doug.  Think about the times these HSc's were created in.  WWII was about to end and everyone at the Mauser factory would know it.  Over 5,000 were slave laborers who would be thinking about returning home and not the quality of their work.

Warbird, your point about slave laborers leads me to wonder whether the "squiggly-line sevens" may not in fact be typical of German handwriting but rather of some other nationality. Note in this picture how the "squiggly-line sevens" in "177" and "176" are much different than the "straight-line seven" in 127 (posted by "Roger" in another forum).
Anyone have any insights about this style handwriting of the number "7" ?

I have 947183.  It has what I call a light finish.

Jim, only 5 serial numbers between our HSc's ............. thanks for reporting that

I'd love to see pictures of your's for comparison, especially the color of your frame and slide and also the handwritten number etched at the muzzle end of the slide

Jim, thanks very much for posting those pictures. Your pistol is in really nice shape - it's seems to have survived better than mine

It would be great fun to see the three of these "up close" in hand, but at least for now here is a photo-shopped picture of these three amigos

Too bad it wasn't a side view of the Frame Webs forward of the Trigger Guard.  That would show the actual color differences in the finish.  As I said before, you are comparing the front and rear Grip Straps where the most wear would occur from handling.

Mine sure looks like a military blued slide on an incomplete blued frame showing wear to both front and back straps.

None,  Just making observations.  I always enjoy your verification or observations to the contrary.  I think we all learn from your comments.  I know that I do.

Alan, do you think these February-production pieces were actually delivered, or were they in the plant when it was captured?

My "F" was taken by a US Army Corporal from New York from a city police officer in Schweinfurt, Germany.  He told me the story of his last days in the war and the capture history of this pistol.  He had to sell the gun as he was entering an assisted living facility and his family was not interested in getting it registered in New York State.  I have lived in New York.  That registration process is a little bit of a pain.  I am sure these "F"s were issued.

Very good, Jim.  I agree with your analysis.  March production probably did not make it to the field though.  That would include the last Police pistols 948790 and 949192.  The French occupied Mauser Werke on April 19th.

That is fascinating information ! Thank you Jim and Alan
Here's a piece of interesting trivia: Oberdorf am Nekar to Schweinfurt is about 267km
