Title: Another identification request
Post by: wep72 on February 09, 2014, 01:25:35 PM
I have reviewed a number of web sites in an effort to understand the origin and vintage of a Mauser passed down from a great Uncle. This one is stamped "Erfurt" 1917, serial # 3470 with kar. 98. along the receiver. The caliber is stamped 7.9? with the last digit that does not appear to be a 2. Anything will help.

You have a WW 1 Kar 98 - either an "a" or "b" Mod.
These were in 8mm = 7.9 OR 7.92mm.
