General Discussion / Little going on here
« on: August 28, 2020, 01:09:36 PM »
It is sad to see such little activity going on here. Things do seem to be slower in general these days. I hope as things start to get back to normal this site sees the activity it deserves.

« on: October 18, 2019, 06:41:22 PM »
I have been told, on gunboards main forum that a member there tried to register here and was unable to. They said that "registration was disabled". I wanted to report it to see if there is a problem with the site so I could advise them. Please let me know if there is an issue and when it has been resolved.

C96 / C12 Broomhandle / Large Ring Hammer Bolo
« on: June 09, 2019, 05:54:34 PM »
This example was recently acquired but due to its loss of finish I decided to have the finish restored. It is import marked and though most of the bluing was absent there was no pitting except under the grip. The grips are reproduction but the correct type for this example. The marking in the 4th image is a character followed by 4 digits. If anyone can identify this marking I would greatly appreciate it. I believe it to be a police mark from Asia.

C96 / C12 Broomhandle / Officers pistol or Bolo discussion
« on: January 28, 2019, 09:40:12 AM »
To all members,

I am interested in having a dialogue with other C96 collectors about the development, variations and categories of Mauser's C96 pistols with the smaller grip. From what I have read the first appearance of a smaller grip frame occurred on early Large Ring Hammer pistols and was referred to as the Officer's model. The first small grip being curved and without the accommodation for a stock attachment. The concept of a smaller grip was then changed to have straight sides and the stock slot re-appeared. It then appears several variations were produced to find the preferred combination of features to market. I have always considered the small grip frame examples to be "Bolo" models but this appears to be a poor choice of nickname as it is primarily derived from the post war (WWI) variation and seems to be misused to describe other variations with short barrels. I am interested in the thoughts of others.

WTP / Mauser WTP IIs up for sale
« on: January 04, 2017, 08:34:26 PM »
I now have 12 WTP IIs in my collection and have duplicates and in one case 3 of one of the types. I have decided to offer a couple for sale to thin my collection as well as generate some funds. I have a type 3 and type 4 that I plan to list on a auction site but before I do I thought if there is a member here who would like to add one or both of these to their collection I would offer them here first. Both are matching with original blued finish. They are in very good condition but have some loss of finish and some tiny areas that have blemishes from prior rust. There is no active rust on either but I want it to be clear that they are not perfect. I will provide pictures to anyone interested. They will be fairly priced but I will not be giving anything away. I know how hard these are to come by in decent condition. If anyone is interested please send me a PM and we will proceed from there.

General Discussion / The old site
« on: April 30, 2015, 12:29:01 PM »
Hi Tim,
I have noticed some things that I wanted to bring to your attention. I tried to go to oldmauserguns.com this morning and could not connect to the site. Someone on another forum wanted to view my article and I could not provide a working link. I have also noticed there is no way to view it or some of the other good information that is on the old site from the new pages. I was wondering if you plan to incorporate any of those old links here or if the forum is going to be the main focus of this site and the old will eventually go away? I have very much appreciated your hosting this site and if there is anything I can do to help please just let me know.
I hope all is well with you and yours.

Regards,
Burgess Mason
