General Discussion / Reduced load for 7mm 1893 Mauser
« on: October 15, 2020, 02:53:44 PM »
Does anyone know about a reduced load for 7mm Mauser using IMR4895 , 160GR round nosed bullet . The chart shows 34.0 gr as minimum load but is it still safe to go lower some or would that cause pressure issues . Was doing test loads and from the higher test loads going down the group kept getting better so was wondering if I took it a bit lower would the group continue getting better . Had been using H4895 for years but ran out and trying to figure out my loads with the IMR4895 I was able to get .

I ordered the safety lever or what I call the flag and that has seemed to solve the problem . It functions in all the positions now .

General Mauser Rifle Questions / k98 butt stock "R" stamp
« on: June 17, 2020, 01:56:17 PM »
Sorry but this probably will not be my last question .   On the butt stock there is a R stamped in the wood on both sides . Would this be a rack marking , unit marking or just a random stamp ?

General Mauser Rifle Questions / are mauser stocks interchangable
« on: June 15, 2020, 01:00:30 PM »
Again helping a friend with a k98 .  This question is about the stock , I don't think it is for this rifle . The cross bolt (hope that's right word) on the stock does not align up with the holes in the stock quite right . There are small hair line cracks coming off the holes on both sides . And the tang is right up against the backside of the wood and also has a hair line crack come off it . Is this meaning the stock comes from a other model Mauser rifle ?.

General Mauser Rifle Questions / K98 jammed safety
« on: June 14, 2020, 08:23:35 PM »
Helping a friend who has a K98 . The safety is stuck in the fire position . I have took it apart and cleaned it (was pretty bad ) and see that the flag safety is wore pretty bad and think should be replaced . I know my friend is going to ask "can't I keep shooting it way it is "  . My feelings are if a firearms safety is not working right it needs to be left alone till fixed  . I can change most things out on a gun but not a gunsmith . With that wore safety is there anyway for it to slip or something and allow it to fire besides of by mistake pulling the trigger . I will not make a guess on something like this .
