Title: Please help ID this rifle
Post by: BruceH on September 17, 2014, 11:02:32 AM
Newbie here. Not a "collector" with a lot of knowledge about rifles. I'm about to receive a Mauser that has been in the family for quite awhile but nobody knows the history of it. The serial #22373 is on barrel and receiver, 3 lug bolt with no id #on it. 1936 Ankara is stamped on receiver.

From my brief research I thought that Turkey purchased Mausers but didn't know they manufactured as well? Also, was told it came with a hand carved wooden sight (which has since been accidently broken off). Was the hand carved sight original?

When I do get it I want to restore it to as original condition as I can but for now any help in ID would be greatly appreciated. I am very excited to get this rifle working and to the range.

Thanks,

Bruce

Hey Bruce, are there other markings besides the date and "Ankara" on the receiver?
Also, is it a long rifle (29" Bbl) or short rifle (23-1/2" Bbl), never heard of a wooden sight
on any mauser rifle,  that is very unusual.

Tahoe2,
thanks for the reply. I've asked my dad these questions and will get back with his replies.

It's some type of Turkish mauser.
