Model HSC Pistol / Re: Un-numbered Examples
« on: August 20, 2013, 04:27:37 PM »
Alan,

I had the same idea.   The shipper wants a serial number.  I just called them.  Looks like a hassel from start to finish.  Life is too short to worry about a single transaction.  There are other fish to fry out there.  I will let this one swim away.  Thanks for scanning the regulations.  Looks like there is pre and post ban laws.  Then another layer of Missouri state law is added in there along with the shipping regulations and home insurance proof of ownership.  If is was a LGS, I would be buying a ticket to VA to meet with those people.  But it is not!

I don't disagee with your position.  It is a case of compliance.  Is the transfer of a non-numbered modern gun, post 1898, legal?

Just had a reply from the seller on a no serial numbered gun and he tells me the ATF will let you sell am example without a serial number on it.   You just have to note it has no serial number on it.  I am a bit confused as we have a gun manufacture here in my community. He tells me no gun can leave his factory without a serial number on it.  Is the Black River Arms Manufacture confused?

Model HSC Pistol / Un-numbered Examples
« on: August 20, 2013, 12:23:57 PM »
Gentlemen,  You may notice from time to time that sellers advertise late model HScs and other models without any serial numbers on them.   They note that they have been "lunched box" out of the factory and I am sure that story has merit.  The question I have, is how can these examples be legally sold? I placed a call into the BATF and a very nice young lady at their HQ offices told me they could not be transferred under my C&R license nor under an FFL1 license.  Am I missing something here?

Model HSC Pistol / Re: Such Thing as a Phosphate Police E/F
« on: August 14, 2013, 10:46:19 PM »
Rob,  No phosphate parts on mine.  Very, very good condition, but just weak on the bluing up the front grip.  My "F" was captured near an American POW camp in Germany.  The N.Y. vet that sold it to me just before going into a retirement home, said he ran into a police officer with a sully tone near Schweinfurt.  (Just checked my notes on that town)    They had just seen the poor treatment provided for our POWs.   He said he took no lip from the cop and grabed his gun from him.  It is a nice story as it places the weapon in action late in the war, when that camp was set free.  Sounds like you have a beautiful example (or Two).  Guess mine was not on that same rail car.  Glad to know someone with a gun so close to my numbered example.  And yes, stamped trigger to answer your question.

Regards,  Jim

I have #947183 E/F and it is a weak, military blue finish.  Almost straw color on the frame like they did not leave it in the bluing vat very long.  Pretty close to your number.

I was not aware a mauser came in that caliber.  There is a 9MM cal. mauser X 63MM long?

I have one of these, but cannot find where it tells the caliber.  What ammo should I be looking for?   That is unless, it has been rechambered and I have one of those also, but it shows 30-06 on the side of the barrel.

Thanks for any help.

That is certainly a dark finish.  I congratulate you on finding an example with that odd acceptance stamp.

Model HSC Pistol / Re: High Polish HSc E/135
« on: July 29, 2013, 09:12:21 AM »
At the gun show there was a dealer that referenced a book with the number 4,000 being a "special" production run of ultra high polished E/135s.  I was not familiar with any of that discussion about this "special" 4,000 run, so that is the reason for my inquiry.  I thought I had learned something new from an old salt, but it turns out I may have been listening to someone not very skilled in the HSc field.  I had another "old salt" dealer tell me my 1935 Kaovaka from Eloelo, Panay was not correct.  It just so happened a man from the island of Panay was standing there(small world) and set him straight in a 10 min. lesson of detail by detail.  I learn something new every day.  I did learn there was a private gun collection of HScs that would be going on the market soon.  The collection has a LGS in it. I made an offer, sight unseen.  Hope I don't regret that leap of faith.
