KAR 98K Rifle / Rifle Help - Thanks in advance

I inherited a Mauser style rifle that has been clearly neglected and poorly changed into a sporter. The rifle has few markings and i was wondering if anyone could help me determine specifics on the rifle. At this point i don't even know the caliber so anything will help
The serial number is K17XXX which i believe from my research is Manufactured by Firma Luch u. Wagner, Suhl (http://mauser98k.internetdsl.pl/kodyliten.html) because it has the Letter "K" Ordinance Codes. I also believe that its from 1934 (http://mauser98k.internetdsl.pl/kodyen.html). After that i really cant figure much more out. I believe it is a 8mm but i am not sure as it looks like all other marking other than the serial number are not readable.
