It won't close the cracks but it will remoisturize the area and prevent further cracking.

Holster Forum / Re: Caring and Storage of Leather Holsters and Slings

Just for some variety I have used Pecard's and Connolly's hide care products and I like Connolly's somewhat better. Jerry Burney (Lugar Holster Repair) recommended Connolly's to me.  If you get Connolly's it will be separated in the jar.  Just heat it in the microwave for 5 or 6 seconds and stir.  Then it's ready to use.  Apply with an old tooth brush.

I agree with jcorl never seen a "Z" stamp. Your other picture is the last three digits of the serial number which is normal on all HSc's

Mauser P38 Pistol / Re: Russian dipped P38's
« on: January 19, 2017, 02:44:55 PM »
HWaA the dipped pistols will have a black jelly bean luster that will hide the original finish.  They also dipped over the S and F so it will appear to be black and not painted. Thirdly the locking and pin at the rear will appear dark blued but not to be confused by the light bluing of some late Spreewerk locking blocks and pin. On the Walther and Mauser P.38's the locking blocks and pins are always in the white unless dipped.

I hope this was helpful.

Here is a peak production Mauser HSc with a Military finish and smooth sight ramp.  The serial number is 846164 which puts it in 1943.  Alan if you could can you give me the Month of production too.

Mauser P38 Pistol / A late 1944 Mauser byf44 blued not dual tone P.38
« on: September 27, 2016, 07:35:04 AM »
This is a byf44 6026y made by Mauser in September 1944.  It fills a hole in my collection I have several phosphate byf44's from 1945 so I needed a 1944 blued gun.

The holster may be a post war PP holster the inked out area on the inside over flap usually cover the East German MDI identification number.  It was often blotted out on East German holsters being brought to the US.

Those are relly nice "sweetheart" grips. They devalue the pistol somewhat but I really like them. The gun is part of your family history, treasre it.
