General Discussion / New book on Paul Mauser
« on: September 14, 2016, 04:12:11 PM »
Dear Fellow Collectors,
After more than 6 years of study of the Paul Mauser Private Archive and early Mauser Archive, we are happy to announce that the new reference book on Paul Mauser will be soon available.

The book is published by Brad Simpson Publishing and is printing now.

Attached you can find a brochure that introduces the new book; we are sure the book will provide new and unpublished information directly from the original sources.

Note also that the documentary “The Legacy of Paul Mauser” was filmed during the book’s research and will also be available.

Please have a look at the brochure and do not hesitate to ask any question.

WTP / Small presentation of a WTP1 with holster
« on: July 13, 2016, 07:42:23 AM »
Last month I found a nice little WTP1 holster to accompany the pistol I have had for a couple of years.

A nice match and an interesting military style WTP holster with a separate pouch which contained the cleaning rod.

Enjoy,

I recently acquired this old postcard of a French stage cowboy with his Mauser pocket pistol.

Model HSC Pistol / Near-mint 'sock drawer' HSc
« on: May 21, 2016, 03:34:46 PM »
This week I received a HSc I purchased at an auction. It was a bit of a gamble, as the photos showed a pistol that was looking so good (including the grips) that most mistook it for a refinish/refurb job.

But after receiving the pistol, all turned out to be correct and in excellent condition. The pistol was partially covered with traces of old, dried out, gun grease and it was virtually bone dry.

The photo and scans I made really don't do the pistol justice, but you get an idea of the condition. I guess someone got this pistol issued during the war and decided he didn't have any use for it, planted it in his sock drawer and forgot all about it  :)

Non Gun Items / Promotional item - small pocket knife
« on: May 10, 2016, 10:05:50 AM »
Here is a neat little pocket knife I picked up recently.

The knife was made by the company of Paul A. Henckels in Solingen, as a promotional item for Mauser. They did a lot of these promotional items for German companies. The knife has a neat little leather holster.

Model HSC Pistol / Norwegian HSc -
« on: March 08, 2016, 02:05:37 PM »
Thanks to one of our forum members, I was able to close a gap in the HSc collection I am putting together.

I contacted a number of Norwegian collectors in the past, explaining that I was looking for a Norwegian Police marked example. Most told me I was crazy, that this was not a collectible and others didn't reply at all. Asle did, and he helped me to find a very nice example, including Norwegian police holster.

After a long, long paper trail and some transportation issues, the pistol made it safely here and I was able to look it over. Nice Waffenamt marked military HSc that spent the remainder of its service life with the police in Norway.

Non Gun Items / Some examples of Mauser merchandise
« on: December 20, 2015, 10:26:08 AM »
I recently got a small batch of Mauser promotional items, some badges, pins and stickers.

The pins with the coat of arms logo are quite recent, the others most likely of 1970s - 1980s vintage.

Model 1934 Pistol / Japanese holster
« on: October 16, 2015, 06:35:42 PM »
This holster is on its way to me, I stumbled across it on a local advertising site, where it was misidentified.

I have to check which pistol fits best, M1914 or M1934 or possibly an M1910, but the holster itself looks like its in good shape, and most probably of Japanese origin.

Any thoughts?

General Discussion / Some nice additional Mauser finds
« on: April 01, 2015, 12:34:58 PM »
Sometimes you come across items that are too nice to pass up, especially if they are related to our favorite brand.

Here are some recent acquisitions:

1. A 1940s pay envelope from the Mauser subsidiary in Berlin-Borsigwalde (in the DWM complex).
2. A Mauser company chair.

Model 1934 Pistol / 1934 dug up at Deelen airbase Holland
« on: October 27, 2014, 05:22:53 PM »
During a visit to the Deelen museum, a military airfield in the Netherlands, I noticed this 1934 on display. It was found at a German crash site in Epe, not far from the Airbase. The pilot had already been recovered and buried at a military cemetery.

Model HSC Pistol / Mauser HSc V3
« on: July 30, 2014, 11:55:11 PM »
This pistol recently surfaced from the estate of a former Mauser employee.

The basis appears to be an Interarms contract .32 ACP pistol that had the serial number removed and replaced with number V3, a serial number used by the R&D Department of Mauser (V for 'Versuch / Versuchsabteilung'). The barrel is a 9mmK / .380ACP version and the springs also are a bit stronger than usual. The hammer protrudes slightly further, so in order to remove the slide, the hammer must be pulled back slightly.

The slide and barrel have no proof markings, also no FBM markings. The frame is only FBM-marked and has no commercial proof (which one would expect in Germany, as it is legally required there).

The pistol itself is an early 1st variation, with the leaf spring disconnector, production somewhere in 1968 - 69.
Plastic grips are the early 'Mauser' type, not the AE Interams contract version.

I suspect that this pistol was somehow used as a 9mmK / .380ACP testbed, created by modifying a .32 version that was taken directly from regular production.

Mauser Revolvers / Mauser Model L22. Single Shot...
« on: April 19, 2014, 11:17:40 AM »
One of the most remarkable 'revolvers' that appeared under the Mauser brand name in the 1990s was this contraption.

Labeled the 'Mauser Mod. L22' it was chambered for one (!) .22lr round, making it a single shot pistol, but with the appearance of a revolver. This was most likely made by Umarex, under license from Mauser and most probably for a market where single shot .22lr pistols were easily obtainable by the general public.

The Frame and trommel are made of castings, the barrel and chamber are steel and pressed into the frame and trommel. Fit and finish of the entire product is along the lines of the Umarex / Mauser blank firing revolvers.

The gap between the chamber and the barrel of the specimen shown is so large that I haven't had the need to test fire it yet :)

Parts and packaging of these L22's surfaced in France, so I expect that French legislation once provided room for this weird, wackey 'revolver'.

This particular example has been proofed in Germany, at the Cologne (Köln) proof house in 1993.
