Meanwhile, I have a Russian / Ukrainian friend who is also a C96 collector and he may well buy one

My Turkish Conehammer is all matching numbered and is serial numbered 136 in Rumi of course.
So far I have only come across one photo of a Turkish officer carrying a holstered C96, it is on page 202 of a book "Turk Askeri Kiyafetleri" by I. Dunya Savasi'nda.
How much is the book , I will order one by the end of next month (April). Thanks again Mauro, you've been a great help

I am in the UK so I will order directly from the email address you have enclosed.
I am very much into the early C96, they are possibly the most elegant in terms of design in my humble opinion.
I have a Turkish Conehammer and a Persian Contract Pre-War, but sold my Italian Flatside a few years ago
I am very much interested in who were the recipients of the Turkish Conehammer issued to as there were approximately only 1000 examples ever produced ? Is there any photographic evidence in the book ?

C96 / C12 Broomhandle / Large Ring Transitionals C96

Hi everyone,
I am trying to research into the Large Ring Transitionals within the conehammer range and wish to know anyone out there who has the earliest LRT on record ? The reason being, the run of the early LRTs was mixed into the Conehammer serial range, and it is considered to be one of the rarest production gun amongst all C96 variants ? It's estimated to be only about 2000 to 3000 guns of this variant ever made (discounting the later LRTs in the 20,000 range that is).
I understand the Large Ring was introduced in the 12,000 range but no one (i know) can be certain of the very 1st ever appeared ? My curiosity stems from the fact I owned an early LRT serial numbered 12272 which to my knowledge is the earliest recorded in all the books ! I am sure someone out there has an earlier one ... I will post some pics of the 12272 over Christmas, Oh, it also comes with its matching woodstock and originally the ensemble was a Boer War trophy after the armistice.

Yeah, I have seen some weird stuff over the years imean stuff that don't exist in books or any publications !?! For example (going off topic a little bit) I have seen an early removable mag Model 1930, serial numbered within the regular C96 production, and not one of those converted Schnellfeuers ! It actually has a Model 1930 lock mechanism and innards & milled out panels, moreover it once belonged to a chauffeur of some Nazi bigwig and its serial number is also very special. It comes with a leather holster and is slotted for a Schnellfeuer woodstock but without the extra cut-out for the selector switch button !?! Oh, being that it once belonged to a (minor) Nazi, who spent 2 years in prison after the Nuremberg trials before his release[size=78%], the gun is naturally Nazi marked on the lhs of the diagonal flat of the chamber.[/size]

Hi J.D,
Your C96 is very interesting indeed, in all my collecting years I have only ever come across that is the same !!! It was also a Wartime Commercial and exhibited all the hallmarks of guns serial numbered from the 290,000 range to 433,000 range. The gun I saw actually has only a 3 digit serial number !!! I believe these guns were of some kinda military contract , but to which nation I don't know ?
The only "error" I see with your gun (albeit a minor one) is the safety. Guns with the NS monogram (New Safety) normally have a solid safety button that is not drilled through like the example on yours. However, this is by no means a hard & fast rule.
Still love your C96 by the way, what a great find !!!

Hi Chancock,
Your C96 looks like it's a transitional Model 1930, these appear around the 730,000 serial range and run until the 800,000 range. The gun still bears vestiges of the Wartime commercial guns but has features that are commonly found in the Model 1930 (i.e. stepped barrel & lanyard loop in the same axis as the gun).

Sorry, looking at your pics one more time, it looks like some kinda contract gun and not a Red since the rear sight is not calibrated from 1-500 (meters). A very interesting gun all the same.

Hi JBW,
On which page do you find the 2 terms "large" & "small" frame ? I can only guess the "large" frame refers to the guns with removable magazines, and the "small" frame refers to guns with fixed magazines ?
The Long extractor refers to guns serial numbered from 1 to 39,000 (approximately), these guns have the first type of extractor which is 1 1/2" long - the extractor is a flat piece of metal which is usually blued and is located at the top front end of the bolt.
The short extractor refers to guns manufactured from serial range 39,000 till the end of production. This type of extractor is 1 1/4" long.

Hi Jason,
What is the caliber of your C96 do you know ? Judging from the serial number alone can be misleading cos it is in the Prewar Commercial serial range. However the gun looks like it has 6-groove rifling which means that it was made at some point after 1912.
I have a funny feeling it is a Red 9 , as its serial number falls within the Red 9 range which starts from 1 to 135,000 or so, the only thing is the grips do not have the usual Red 9 burnished into them. This sometimes happened, and is considered to be a "factory error".
Love to know more about your C96

The unknown gap of 5000 guns is referred to the Italian Contract Flatside. There were also some out of series Flatsides such as the German Test Flatside intended for the Imperial German Cavalry.

C96 / C12 Broomhandle / Schnellfeuer magazine problem

Hi everyone,
I would be eternally grateful if someone could offer any advice on the problem I have with an early Schnellfeuer of the Westinger variant. The problem is I cannot insert the mag fully into place unless the bolt is racked back ? At the moment the mag goes in but leaves about 1/4" sticking out of the mag well ? This happens to ALL the Schnellfeuer mags I've tried, 10 or 20 round mags all have the same problem  It's very frustrating, please can anyone help ? Thanks in advance.
