Model HSC Pistol / Non-Serialized Mauser HSc Pistols
« on: September 07, 2019, 05:35:46 PM »
From time-to-time, a non-serialized HSc, made up of late war parts will surface.  Based on the appearance of the front grip strap, these pistols left the plant un-serialized.  Mark C shows one on his website at http://www.p38guns.com/HScnoserial.htm, listing it as a post-war gun.  Does anyone know the history of these guns?  I understand the history of the Mauser plant as told by Don Hallock and Joop van de Kant in the The Mauser Parabellum book, pages 593-600.  There is no mention of the taking of souvenirs.

Model 1934 Pistol / Date of Manufacturer
« on: March 03, 2019, 08:07:42 PM »

Is it possible to date a Mauser 1934 to the year and month of production?  I've have this one for many years and am curious when it was made.  It is an E/655 proofed with an ATP, serial number 586266.

Model HSC Pistol / Value of "Swiss" Commercial HSc
« on: May 26, 2017, 08:30:02 PM »
I may have an opportunity to acquire a commercial HSc that fits the description of a "Swiss" variant as described in the Burnham / Theodore book (page 38).  It does have the correct finger extension magazine, but no spare or no presentation box.  SN looks to be in the correct range, and finish matches the description.  I know determining a value is impossible without inspection, but I'm looking for a value relative to a equivalent condition and vintage commercial HSc.  Is it 1.5x, 2x, 2.5x, etc.  Thanks, trying to zero in on a fair offer.

Model HSC Pistol / Grip Authentication
« on: July 15, 2015, 01:06:46 AM »
A fried of a friend purchased a refinished Mauser HSc recently as a shooter, and it is equipped with the grips pictured.  I want to buy the grips, but not comfortable that they are original.  I know there are now reproductions that have proper inside the grip markings.  Any opinions on these?

Model HSC Pistol / Late War E/F - Refinished?
« on: June 13, 2015, 11:05:09 PM »
I waited until the GB auction was over to post, but am convinced that this late war E/F HSc, SN 946817, is obviously refinished.  I'm fortunate enough to have several close in SNs, and the machining on the grip strap in particular, as well as the overall finish, looks nothing like the GB gun.   The auction # is 486183849 and it sold for $1,225 this afternoon.  I sent an email to the Seller several days ago telling him I believed it was refinished, but he didn't respond.  Here is the photo from GB that convinced me.  I think there will be a very unhappy Buyer when he shows off his new acquisition and learns the truth.  Does anyone else agree with my conclusion?

Model HSC Pistol / Post-War French Acquisition
« on: December 15, 2014, 10:14:09 AM »
Hi, my main focus is wartime guns, but I got a chance to acquire this at what I believe is a very reasonable price, and I bought it.  I researched it in the [very good] Mauser HSc Pistol Book Mauser (Burnham / Theodore), and I think it's legitimate and perhaps rare due to condition.  I'm looking for some feedback.  Thanks,

Model 1914 Pistol / Early Commercial 1914/1934 Transitional
« on: August 01, 2013, 10:44:41 PM »
This Mauser was listed on a public auction site and the auction is now over.  I had not seen this combination of markings before, but was able to match them up to an early commercial 1914/1934 transitional variant from Pender's book.  The grips seem more like a 1934, but I suppose could be correct.  The gun was advertised as ". . . original commercial blue finish . . ."  Wear seems to be in the right places, but one thing struck me as odd and unusual about it.  I was not bidding on it, so interested to know the experts thoughts on it.  Always trying to learn.

Model HSC Pistol / Wartime HSc Barrel Block Markings
« on: July 12, 2013, 08:51:05 PM »
In looking over my wartime Mauser HSc barrel markings, I noticed a couple of different stampings in addition to the last three digits of the grip strap serial number.  Is there any known meaning to these stampings or are they simply inspector stampings whose meaning is lost to time?

Model HSC Pistol / E/L E/F Numbered Magazines
« on: June 30, 2013, 10:57:06 AM »
Like other WWII German Police handguns, was it the practice to number the magazines to the guns?  I'm not sure I've seen numbered magazines for Police marked guns (E/L or E/F).  As a reference, there is a very nice E/L HSc for sale on one of the collector sites with two matching spine-numbered magazines.  I've never  seen a complete police rig like this before.  Do original WWII examples exist?

Model HSC Pistol / Late War WaA135 Acquisition
« on: April 24, 2013, 11:25:34 PM »
I was on the hunt for a late war WaA135 HSc and came across this one.  It's serial number 948402, all matching (barrel and slide).  It had wood grips on it, but they were chipped, as many HSc grips are, so I put on a set of wartime "ejo" grips I purchased from another forum member on the P.38 forum.  The WaA135 looks hastily stamped, at an angle and deep on the left and light on the right.  The HSc and grips need to be carefully cleaned, but otherwise it is what I hoped to get.  I'm not sure about the holster.  It's unmarked, but looks more like a CZ27 holster to me.  But, the HSc has clearly been in it a very long time and fits like a glove.
This serial number must be 1945 manufacture, but can the month be pinned down?
