Title: Question about number stamp
Post by: CWFTX on June 22, 2017, 01:57:06 AM
Gents, new to the forum.  I have a question about my C96.  It's a German export to China, and its serial number is 899,xxx.  It is also stamped above the grip on one side with the number 37.  See pic below.  Anyone seen a stamp like that before?  Anyone know what it stands for?  The serial number might suggest that it correlates to a date, 1937.  Not sure though.  Any info would be appreciated.  Thanks very much!

It is not a factory marking so that would leave it having been done in China by any one of a number of warlords, armories, police departments, etc... The meaning is most likely lost to time.
