C96 / C12 Broomhandle / Re: Broomhandle Pistol 1896-1936

I looked on Amazon and also AbeBooks.  Seems $500 and up is typical on those two sites, but some  prices posted on Amazon are truly ridiculous (>$5000).  Perhaps those stratospheric  prices are for the early cased limited editions.  Mine is one of the 2000 printed, but it does have a hand-written inscription by Pate.  I think I'll hang onto mine for a little while as I don't need the cash.  In that same storage box with "Broomhandle" were three other of my older gun books also with quite high current prices listed.  Seems that those books have meen better investments than some of my guns.

I have a 1985 first edition first printing of the Wayne R. Erickson and Charles E. Pate book "The Broomhandle Pistol, 1896-1936"  Autographed by Pate on frontispiece. Hard cover, like new condition, no damage.  I've had it packed away for over 10 years with a number of other gun books, and just ran across it.  I tried to locate one on eBay to see what it's value might be to determine if it is worthwhile to list it for sale there, but couldn't find anything.  I am not a Mauser broomhandle collector, but thought someone here would know more about it.  Any comments?

General Discussion / Re: French Police M1920 Mauser Holster

Yesterday, I made up a simple but dimensionally correct wood model of a C/96 with the typical 5.5" barrel (I do not have a C/96).  I found that it fit properly in this holster.  So possibly the tag indicating that it was for the M1930 Mauser is correct. So far, I have received no further ID information from my postings in other forums.

A holster just like mine was just listed on eBay.  Unfortunately, all it said was WWII holster for broomhandle.  I contacted the seller for more details, and he knew nothing about it.

I do not have a long-barrel C96, but from my measurements, it could not accommodate anything longer than a 5" barrel.  And indeed the tag on it says "1930 Mauser pistol"  I do not know by whom or why.  I think the M1930s have a 5.1" barrel, and if so, those would probably fit into this holster.  But the question remains as to what the holster is.  Police? Military? Civilian? whose?  And no markings are on it to help.

I recently acquired a leather holster which may well be one for the 1920 order of 3.9" barrel Mausers for the French National Police.  No one I have contacted seems to know what it is.  Please respond if you know anything about such holsters and can identify it.
