Model 1914 Pistol / Re: Clearing a Mauser 1914

Thanks for responding 1914mauser, he had a different problem, had fired off all the rounds in magazine except one, which was in the chamber.  The magazine was empty.  We could not get the slide to release to slide back and eject that unspent round, we tried with the mag both in and out.

There must be a way to rack the slide to eject a round without firing it.

After clearing the round (by firing it when the line went hot again) we noticed the little button adjacent to the trigger on the left side of the gun. See the attached picture.  Could that be a release to rack the slide?

Does anybody know how to clear a 1914 without firing off all the rounds in the magazine?

How do you release the slide to open the chamber if there is a round from the magazine already in the chamber from the previous cycling?

I was at the range with a friend who was firing this gun for the first time.  The range was called cold with the last round in the chamber.  He could not rack the slide back to remove that round and clear the gun, so he safed the gun and removed the mag, and had to just set the gun down.  When the range was hot again, we tried again to clear the chamber, but couldn't so he fired the final round.

I don't believe that this is how that weapon is supposed to work, is there a slide release to open the slide and clear a round without firing as most guns have?  Is the mechanism just worn?
