General Mauser Rifle Questions / Rifle grandpa brought back from WW2

Looking for some help on what i have hear. Grandpa had brought back some guns with him from WW2 in germany when they raided a german building. This mauser is one of them. I have been told it looks to be chambered in 30.06. And may have not made it to portugal for its original intent? It also has a sight i have never seen. It says Redfield on it. I cannot find any other pictures online showing this same stock either with the diamond wood inlay on the rear (both sides)and the oval wood piece on the bottom that looks like it may be a hideaway for somthing? Id love to know if i can open that or if its glued in place. So what do i have here? thanks for the help.
