The lanyard ring is like a keyring, though more substantial. You should just be able to open it a little and slide it on, similar to a keyring. Now for MY 64 million dollar question!!!!   I am looking for one of these myself....  can I ask where you got yours from?
Cheers,Mike

i went down to my gun safe , i checked 12 brooms they had the ring that looks like a key ring the 13th had a small solid type ring not like the key ring type.my schnell also has the key ring type.. i read somewhere that the key ring type is not correct anyone else heard this about the key ring type?

i guess i will need to look at them again i thought the one that i had only one of was a solid ring with just a small cut in it while all the rest were made similar to a key ring style

I would be careful when saying one ring is genuine and the other isn't.

Mauser apparantly did not manufacture the rings themselves but purchased them from an external source.
