As it turns out, the extractor relief needed work. Now, I just need to break it in a bit. It runs great now.

Reproduction firing pins are widely available, and are indistinguishable from the originals. Any pin you get may require minor fitting, and/or bluing to match your gun's finish.

My humble 2 cents, Karl, 68coupe

Thank you!!! I naturally assumed that not many people reload 30 Mauser. Not a lot of people even own them. LOL

Mr. Mason, Thanks for the reply. The folks that did the barrel reline are one of the most renowned gunsmith firms in the US. The gun ran just fine before I sent it to them. It was just all over the place on paper. When I got it back, it would fire with one in the chamber, but not with the mag full. After finding that out, I replaced the recoil and main springs. The main spring seems mighty tight when installing the plunger rocker, even though I am quite weak due to an extended hospitalization. I've only taken it down completely once. Just the one time when I first received it. It doesn't seem like this should be a BIG problem, perhaps even a break-in issue. I'm just trying to narrow it down, as I'd like to be able to take it to an event in October, and don't think the turnaround would meet my timeframe.

C96 / C12 Broomhandle / Loading/battery issue
« on: September 14, 2024, 09:08:32 PM »
I got my firearm back from the relining company and am very pleased with the results of that. My issue is that I can load and fire a single round, but when I load it with a strip clip, it will not go fully into battery. It lacks that last bit to activate the sear/trigger connection. I'm thinking that pressure from the underlying rounds are putting too much pressure on the bolt. Has anyone experienced anything like this? It ran just fine before the relining of the barrel. However, I could throw rocks more accurately than it was.

Thanks in advance, Karl, 68coupe

I just received up my Mauser from PISCO. The only thing I can say is WOW!!! The work is impressive. In addition to relining the barrel, they performed several other needed services on the gun, including; fitting the new firing pin, polishing the bolt and fitting the new safety. I am extremely pleased and awed by the work performed and highly recommend  PISCO for any gunsmithing services you may need.

Thanks for the lead. I've also recently found another gunsmith shop both capable and willing to take the job. It was formerly owned & operated by the late Bob Dunlap of the American Gunsmith Institute videos. Pisco, AKA, Pacific International Service Company. I'm not quite ready yet, but when I am, I'll likely use them, $200-250 (+tax & shipping), with a 2-3 month turnaround.

Thanks, Karl, 68coupe

C96 / C12 Broomhandle / Reloading question
« on: January 30, 2024, 08:29:00 PM »
I've seen "Lee Precision Factory Crimp Die" for sale on various sites. Is it necessary or recommended to crimp the projectile when reloading? I crimp my .30-06, but is it good to do the 30 Mauser?

Thanx in advance, Karl

"I have had two c96 barrels relined by redmondsrifling.com and was satisfied.  He usually has a long backlog and may not be taking in new work.  Cost was around $350"

Thank you. I found his website & he's not taking new work right now. Big notice in bold red font saying exactly that. I also did a little more research and found that I probably don't want anyone else for the job. I guess I'll wait.

Does anyone know of a reputable place to do a re-sleeve job on my nearly shot out 7.63X25 C96? Approximate price tag?

New guy here. Newly purchased C96 (I don't even have it yet). I went through the entire list of posts, and never saw this come up.

Where can I buy 85-88 gr projectiles for reloading?

Thanks in advance, Karl, 68coupe
